ABOUT

Bringing the Magic of Books to Kids to Expand their Imagination and Curiosity

Here at Teens Read To Kids, our teens are having a blast by instilling in kids the life-long love for reading, inciting their imagination, and sparking their curiosity.  Be it fairy tales, mysteries, science or art fiction or nonfiction -- our volunteer teenagers are always fun, engaging, and passionate about reading and are ready to help kids discover the world around them through the magic of books.

Teens Read To Kids is a program where a volunteer teen reads to a group of children just once, on a regular basis, or for a special event.  We can do it on a local playground, in a library, park, or community center (of course, if we get permission), or now even in the comfort of your home via Skype or Zoom.

WHAT WE DO

READING TO KIDS AT VARIOUS PLACES AND EVENTS

We always strive to set up and expand our program at local venues – libraries, recreation and community centers, parks, local events…   Please reach out to us and we’ll be happy to send your way our eager and excited teen volunteers.  No matter what the occasion, kids always love story time.

READING TO KIDS IN THE COMFORT OF YOUR HOME

Now we’re connecting volunteer teens with kids via Skype or Zoom.  Whether you’re a motivated teen or a responsible adult (parent, educator, school or park official, librarian, etc.) taking care of curious kids, get connected via Skype or Zoom from the comfort of your home.  We’ll do our best to match you together!

GUESS WHAT?  READING IS CONTAGIOUS!

Reading expands children’s minds, helps them discover the world, develops their imagination and creativity, and sparks curiosity.  It increases intelligence and improves concentration and memory.   Reading makes children more empathetic, reduces stress, and builds self-esteem.  Moreover, in today’s society, you cannot function without reading because you will not be able to educate yourself and exchange information with others.

What is also amazing about reading is that it is contagious!  It appears that children are encouraged to read by others reading to them.  According to the American Institute for Research, “children tend to share their parents’ positive reading attitudes and behaviors.”  “[I]t is more common for children to enjoy reading and read frequently for fun when their parents also do so."  Moreover, it appears that you encourage kids to read by reading to them.  For example, “a new report from Scholastic suggests that reading out loud to kids throughout their elementary school years may inspire them to become frequent readers…”  And [m] ore than 40 percent of frequent readers ages six through 10 were read to out loud at home, but only 13 percent of those who did not read often for fun were.”  That means that story time is a great way to build children’s love for reading.

So, if reading is contagious, who can be a better reader than a fun and engaging teen?  Teens Read To Kids, where a teenager reads to kids out loud, encourages children to read more and develop love for reading, which in turn will help them become more successful, curious, educated, and fun adults.
